Abstract

1,153,732. Ethylene copolymer compositions. CHEMISCHE WERKE HœLS A.G. 11 Oct., 1966 [12 Oct., 1965], No. 45296/66. Heading C3P. The flexural crack resistance of vulcanizates of unsaturated ethylene/propylene or ethylene/ butylene rubbers is increased by incorporating in the rubber 0À05 to 5 parts by weight per hundred of rubber of a diamine of formula R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>NR<SP>3</SP>NR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP> where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are alkyl, alkenyl or hydroxyalkyl, R<SP>3</SP> is alkylene and R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are hydrogen, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl . The rubber may be derived from ethylene, propylene or butylene, and dicyclopentadiene, hexadiene-1,5, hexadiene-1,4, decatriene-1,4,9, cyclooctadiene - 1,5, 5 - methylenenorbornene and cyclopentadiene adducts. Specified amines are N,N-diethylaminopropylamine, N,N-dibutylaminopropylamine, N,N-bishydroxyethyl trimethylene diamine, N,N-diethyl ethylene diamine and N,N-dibutyltrimethylene diamine. In examples, vulcanizates of ethylene/propylene/dicyclopentadiene rubbers, carbon black, stearic acid, zinc oxide, naphthenic oil, sulphur and tetramethyl thiuram disulphide contain N,N - diethylaminopropylamine or N,N - din-butyl or N,N-bis-hydroxyethyl trimethylene diamines.
