Abstract

1,152,636. Jet fuel. GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. 18 Jan., 1967, No. 2562/67. Heading C5E. A process for making jet fuel comprises contacting a straight run kerosene with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst at 343-399‹ C., a pressure of 35-105 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP> gauge, LHSV of 1-6 and a hydrogen circulation rate of 26À7-178 SCM/min/100 litres kerosene, contacting the resultant product with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst at 232-371‹ C., 35-105 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP> gauge, LHSV of 1-10, and a hydrogen circulation rate of 35À6-178 SCM/min/100 litres of product of first stage. The catalyst for the first stage may comprise Ni, Co, Mo, W, oxides and sulphides thereof, cobalt molybdate or nickel tungstate deposited on porous carriers such as Al 2 O 3 and SiO 2 . The catalyst for the second stage may be (a) 12-50% by weight Ni, Co, Mo and/or W, or (b) 0À5-5% by weight of Pt or Pd each on a porous refractory support.
