Abstract
1,151,797. Coating with glass-metal composition. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 2 May, 1967 [19 May, 1966], No. 20308/67. Heading C1M. [Also in Division C7] A metallizing composition for applying to ceramic substrates and firing comprises by weight 75 to 95% of a noble metal powder and 25 to 5% of an inorganic binder, the noble metal consisting of Ag, 0 to 100 parts Pd and 5 to 40 parts Pt per 100 parts Ag. The metal powder has an average particle size less than 40 microns and the binder is less than 30 microns. The inorganic binder exemplified consists of 11À4 parts bismuth trioxide and 2À9 parts sodium cadmium borosilicate glass frit which has the composition 7À4% Na 2 O 63À4% CdO, 12À7% SiO 2 , 16À4% B 2 O 3 . The composition may be mixed with an organic vehicle in the ratio of 2 to 20 parts to 1 part vehicle. The vehicles may be esters such as esters and propionates, the terpenes, solutions of resins and volatile liquids such as kerosene, xylene and toluene. The substrates coated are forsterite, sapphire, steatite, TiO 2 , alkali earth titanates, zircon, porcelain and Al 2 O 3 . Firing is carried out at 700-760‹ C. and the fired product is used as a conductor or capacitor electrode.
