1,151,774. Protecting guards. J. F. GORMAN. 9 Aug., 1967 [9 May, 1966], No. 20540/66. Heading B7B. In a protecting device of the type described in Specification 1,079,612, the protecting cover which retains the expansible element against unwanted inflation is held in position by a pressurized tube around the joint faces of the cover and mounting plate, the pressure being released by an electrically fired cartridge rupturing a diaphragm when release of the cover is required. Alternatively, a deflated tube in between the joint faces can be inflated to release the interengaging parts of the cover and mounting plate. The protecting device is also released from the vehicle by an electrically fired cartridge at some time interval after its operation in the event of an accident.
