Abstract
1,150,893. Rolling. KAISER ALUMINUM & CHEMICAL CORP. 14 June, 1966 [28 June, 1965], No. 26536/66. Heading B3M. A rolling mill stand includes a pair of rolls mounted in chocks, bending moments being applied to the chocks by lever arms in order to bend the rolls and control their contour. The rolls may be the backing rolls in a 4-high stand or the working rolls of a 2-high one. To each of the upper chocks 22 of a roll 18 a pair of levers 34 are integrally formed, each lever being provided at its free end with an hydraulic cylinder 40 and actuating piston 44. The chocks 25 of the lower roll 18 are similarly each provided with a pair of levers 36, which extend upwardly and outside the levers 34, and are actuated by pistons 42. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3, the levers extend generally parallel to the rolls, each chock, as before, being provided with an integral pair of levers 58 or 62. Alternatively, the levers pivot to the chocks, Fig. 6, about fulcrums 78 and 100, the outer ends 86 of the levers cooperating by means of links 74 with the necks of the roll 18. The links can be formed integrally with the ends 86.
