Abstract

1,150,414. Stabilized vinyl halide resins. TENNECO CHEMICALS Inc. 15 July, 1966 [16 July, 1965], No. 32019/66. Heading C3P. Vinyl halide resins are stabilized by the addition of a Group II or IV metal salt of a trialkylacetic acid R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>C-COOH, in which R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are alkyl groups having a total of 3-18 carbons. There may also be present as stabilizers, an organic phosphite or its partiallyhydrolysed derivative, a polyvalent metal alkylphenate, a polyvalent metal salt of an alkanoic and/or (alkyl) benzoic acid and tripropylene glycol. Stabilizer compositions are formulated in naphtha solvent. The resin may be a homopolymer of vinyl chloride, vinyl bromide or vinylidene chloride or a copolymer thereof with a vinyl ester, vinylidene chloride, styrene, methyl methacrylate, or a dialkyl maleate or fumarate and may be mixed with chlorinated polyethylene, poly(meth- )acrylate esters, and ABS copolymers. Dioctyl phthalate, dibutyl sebacate or tricresyl phosphate is used as plasticizer, together with epoxidized soybean oil.
