Abstract

Vinyl chloride resin gasket compositions comprise a plasticizer and 1 to 15% by weight of oleyl amide, erucyl amide or a mixture thereof, the quantity of amide present being sufficient for said amide to be present on the surface of a gasket formed from the composition and provide lubrication thereto. The resin may be a vinyl chloride homopolymer or copolymer with vinylidene chloride or vinyl acetate. Specified plasticizers are epoxidized soya bean oil, polyester epoxides, dioctyl phthalate and acetyl tributyl citrate. The compositions may also comprise pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide; fillers, e.g. barytes; and stabilizers, e.g. calcium-zinc stearates and calcium ricinoleate. The compositions, which may be in the form of plastisols, may be used to provide gaskets in closure members such as lugged, screw-on and press-on caps. Examples describe gasket compositions comprising polyvinyl chloride, epoxidized soya bean oil, titanium dioxide, calcium-zinc stearates and (I and II) oleyl amide, (III and IV) erucyl amide, and (V to VII) mixtures of oleyl and erucyl amides.
