Abstract

1,148,783. Winding webs. FERDINAND RUESCH, [trading as FERD. RUESCH MASCHINENFABRIK]. 16 June, 1966 [16 June, 1965], No. 26884/66. Heading B6B. [Also in Division D1] An automatic continuous roll-winding device comprises a horizontal cylinder 1 which can be rotated in either direction, and which carries bearings 2 on its circumference in which are mounted, at 2a and 2b, spindles 7. The spindles 7 receive the material 5 to be wound up and are driven by a wheel (17) mounted coaxially with the axle of the cylinder 1 via a friction coupling with a wheel (16) fixed to the spindle. A feed magazine 3 loads the bearings 2 with spindles as the cylinder rotates. A discharge magazine 10 with pick-up edge 11 unloads the wound spindles from bearing 2b as the cylinder rotates. A cutter 8 cuts the material wound on the spindle. One cut end of the tape is secured to the fully wound spindle, the other is secured to the succeeding empty spindle. A lever (12) on the cutter may press and secure the free end of material against the spindle in bearing 2a. The control mechanism used with device may be driven mechanically, pneumatically, hydraulically or electromechanically. The control mechanism operates when a predetermined length of material has been wound. The bearings 2 can be as open slots, preferably curved as shown. The drive wheel (16) can be driven by a further gear (19) acting on a flange (18) of drive wheel (17) (see Fig. 3, not shown). The material being wound can be printed or unprinted tapes of paper, plastic, cloth, metal or threads, yarns or ropes, particularly pressuresensitive polyvinylchloride tape. This latter tape sticks to the spindle in bearing 2a at the start of the winding and the free end of this wound tape on the spindle is coated with a silicone. If the tape is not sticky the spindles can be coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive and the end of the wound tape glued by the coating device 9.
