Abstract

1,148,101. Cleaning pads. MILES LABORATORIES Inc. 14 July, 1966 [1 Sept., 1965], No. 31760/66. Heading A4F. [Also in Divisions C4 and C5] A disposable cleaner for cleaning metals comprises an absorbent, flexible carrier which is impregnated with tartaric acid and a water soluble alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of an inorganic acid. The carrier, which may be a cloth or of paper or plastics, may be also impregnated with mild abrasives such as silica, jewellers rouge, whiting, talc and magnesium oxide; with film forming or anti-tarnish agents comprising oleic acid and other fatty acids; with wetting agents comprising non- ionic detergent; with humectants such as glycerin or polyethylene glycol and with anti-oxidants and corrosion inhibitors. The cleaner may be made by impregnating the carrier with a solution comprising at least the tartaric acid and the alkali metal salt, passing the impregnated carrier between rollers, and drying the impregnated carrier. The alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt may be a chloride, sulphate, nitrate or fluoride of sodium potassium, calcium, magnesium, barium or strontium.
