Abstract
1,146,265. Testing fabrics. CENTRE TECHNIQUE INDUSTRIEL DIT: INSTITUT TEXTILE DE FRANCE. 6 July, 1967 [8 July, 1966], No. 31176/67. Heading D1S. Apparatus for testing textile fabric by abrasion comprises a rubbing member 4 for engaging a surface of the fabric 7 to be tested and a motor 2 connected to a transmission arrangement 3 which drives the member 4, the member 4, the motor 2 and the arrangement 3 each being mounted on a casing 1 which is detachably mounted on a base 5 and the arrangement being such that the fabric 7 is placed for testing between the casing 1 and the base 5. The output shaft 10 of the motor 2 has a pinion 11 to drive a gear 12 in the arrangement 3 which comprises three pairs of gears 12, 13 and 14, 15 and 16, 17 rotatably mounted loosely on shafts 18, 19, 20, respectively, attached to a cage 21 rotatable in the casing 1. A gear 22 is fixed to the casing 1 and cooperates with a gear 23 of a pair of gears 23, 24 keyed to a shaft 25 rotatablymounted on the cage 21. Two eccentrics 27 are each rotatably mounted in diametrically opposed relation relative to the central axis of the casing 1 on the lower part of the cage 21 by a shaft 28 carrying a gear 30 cooperating with the gear 14 and act alternately on a drive 31 for the rubbing member 4. The drive 31 comprises a hub 39 having two lateral arms 41 fixed thereto and each sliding in a guide 32, 33 and alternately cooperating with one of the eccentrics 27. The member 4 comprises a disc 37 .having an upwardly curved edge and a rod 38 mounted to move axially in the hub 39 but to be rotatable with the drive 31. The disc 37 is provided with a detachable rubber cover 42, Fig. 4, preferably of plastics material, and having surfaces 48 formed by small prisms 44 separated by furrows 45. In use, the fabric 7 is stretched over a support 6 on the base 5 and the casing 1 engages a groove 8. Rotation of the pinion 11 is converted into a reciprocating linear movement of the drive 31 by the gears 12, 13, 14, 30 and the eccentrics 27. Simultaneously, the drive 31 is slowly rotated about the axis of the casing 1 by the gears 11, 17, 22, 24, the cage 21 and the guides 32, 33.
