Abstract
1,145,612. Steam turbines. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. April 12, 1967 [April 12, 1966], No.16816/67. Heading F1T. In a steam turbine, relative axial expansion between an outer casing and an inner casing supporting the stator blading is permitted by expansion members each comprising an axially extending tube rigidly connected at one end to the inner casing and connected at the other end with axial clearance to a bushing secured to the outer casing, the tubes being forced with ports for the circulation of hot steam through them. The inner casing 1 supporting stator blading of a steam turbine is connected to an outer casing 2 by axially extending tubes 3 which permit relative axial expansion between the two casings. The tubes 3 are provided with ports 6, 7 for heating by steam whereby their resultant thermal expansion minimizes the relative axial displacement of the rotor and the inner casing. In the case of an L.P. stage comprising three L. P. sections in separate casings, the first section, i.e., the section adjacent the thrust bearing, has its inner casing connected to its outer casing by heated tubes as above, and similar heated tubes are used to connect the inner casing of the second section to the inner casings of the first and third sections. This ensures that the relative axial displacement between the rotor blading and stator blading due to thermal expansion remains almost constant over the length of the entire rotor.
