Abstract

1446267 Turbine casings BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 14 Oct 1974 [16 Oct 1973] 44421/74 Heading F1T A steam turbine casing for a low-pressure turbine section, is of two-shell construction split on an axial plane 25, the inner shell 1 comprising frusto-conical members 4, 5 arranged approximately at right angles to a further frusto-conical member 3, and all connected to a cylindrical member 6 to which the steam inlet pipe or pipes is, or are, attached, the members 3, 4 and 5 carry ring flanges 13, 14 and 15 at their smaller diameter ends, to which are attached stationary blade-carrying segments 16, 17 and 18. A resilient joint 7 allows relative thermal expansion between the steam inlet pipe and the outer shell 2. Steam extraction gaps 26 are provided between the segments 16, 17 and 18. Struts 12 inter-connect ring flanges 14 and 15. Further struts 21 inter-connect segments 18 in the divided axial-flow steam turbine shown.
