Abstract

1,145,246. Mechanical switches without quick-action. AMP Inc. 30 March, 1967 [8 April, 1966], No. 14504/67. Heading H1N. [Also in Division H2] To mate connector halves 4 and 6 which comprise contact-carrying blocks 18, 98 in respective surrounding shells 12, 50, the shells are first coupled, then the blocks 98 of connector half 6 are moved forwardly relative to their shell 50, causing contact pins 97 which they carry to engage socket contacts 19. In coupling the shells, a polarizing projection 34 is received in an internal bayonet groove (58-60, Fig. 6, not shown) in the shell 50 and, when it is fully engaged in the groove, bosses 30, 32 enter, respectively, apertures 54 and internal recesses (56) in the shell 50. The blocks 98 are secured by screws to cross-pieces 90<SP>1</SP> (91, Figs. 3-5, not shown) of a carriage which is movable between forward and retracted positions by operation of a handle 110, the carriage comprising parallel metal plates 72, 74 having slots 86 which slidably engage pins 84 on the side walls of the shell 50. Bolts (28) secure the blocks 18 in their shell 12 and also secure the shell 12 to a panel (8), lead wires (126) from the socket contacts 19 extending through an aperture in the panel. The shell 50 is longitudinally divided, its halves 40, 42 being secured together by screws, and a cable grip 122 is secured to the rear of the carriage by engagement of projections 119 in slots 120. A hexagonal keying plate 62 has an aperture 64 for receiving a pin 36 which is located in one of six apertures 40, this preventing mis-match of connector halves.
