Abstract
114,450. Segundo, E. C. de. Feb. 28, 1917. Removing fibre from cotton and like seeds.- In an arrangement for defibrating the decorticated hulls of cotton and other fibre bearing seeds the beating-devices e, Fig. 1, are mounted on vertical arms carried by a disk b adapted to rotate about a vertical axis c in a defibrating chamber g of conical form. The hulls are fed down the funnel j and pass into the annular space between the conical casing a and the drum f, which has a flat or conical top and encloses the arms carrying the beating-devices e. Further beating-devices a<2> may be mounted upon the casing a. The fibres are carried upwards by the air currents gener. ated by the rotating-beaters and vanes b<2> arranged below the drum f to co-operate with holes in a depending flange b<1> may be provided to intensify the air currents. Dust and short fibres are allowed to pass through sieves i and settle in chambers i<1> arranged round the hood h. The hulls fall down through holes o in the bottom of the chamber a. The fibres are drawn through the annular space k between the hood h and the funnel and are deposited in chambers l. The defibration of the hulls may be carried on in stages by two or more defibrating devices superimposed one on another.
