Abstract

1,144,126. Automatic voltage control. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. June 30, 1966 [July 16, 19651, No.30257/65. Heading G3R. [Also in Division H2] A multi-phase permanent magnet alternator 11 charges a battery 21 over a full wave rectifier comprising diodes 15, 16, 17 and thyristors 12, 13, 14 the gate electrodes of which are connected to receive firing pulses from an oscillator 31 to 36 which is associated with a Zener diode 24 responsive to the battery voltage. The arrangement is such that the oscillator operates with a mark space ratio which varies with the battery voltage, the oscillator operating permanently to keep the thyristors in a conductive state when the battery voltage is low and not operating at all when the battery voltage is high. To ensure a more accurate control, the Zener diode 24 is connected to the input of the oscillator by way of a multi-vibrator constituted by transistors 25, 29 which oscillate between their fully conductive states with a markspace ratio determined by the current supplied through the Zener diode 24.
