[Also in Division B2] A film base material consists of a film of polyethylene terephthalate having superimposed thereon a layer A consisting predominantly of a homopolymer of a polyvinyl halogenoester, or a polyvinyl cyanoester, or a copolymer of a vinyl halogenoester or a vinyl cyanoester with an alphabeta unsaturated carboxylic acid or with acrylamide or methacrylamide or their N-methylol derivatives or with vinyl acetate and/or vinyl alcohol, the layer having been applied to the film before it has been fully orientated. The layer A may be applied as an aqueous dispersion. The layer A may comprise homopolymers of vinyl mono-di-and trichloroacetate, or polyvinyl cyanoacetate, or copolymers of these monomers with 1 to 60 mole per cent of an alpha-beta unsaturated carboxylic acid or with 1 to 30 mole per cent of acrylamide or methacrylamide or theirN-methylol derivatives or with 1 to 60 mole % of vinyl acetate and/or vinyl alcohol. A cross linking agent for the polymer may be included in the layer A and this may be tetraisopropyl titanate or hexamethoxymethyl melamine. Superimposed over layer A may be a second layer comprising gelatine applied from an organic solvent or aqueous dispersion. Also superimposed on layer A may be a layer of cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate, polyvinyl acetal or partially hydralized polyvinyl acetate and this further layer may also carry a light-sensitive-diazonium salt. The base may be treated with a substance having a swelling action thereof such as trichloracetic and chlorinated pheno.
