A cap for a bottle &c. is formed by an inner cap 11 and an outer cap 10 which, on compression of a spring-loaded member 31, 35, may engage with the inner cap whereby dogs 37, 22, formed respectively on the outer and inner caps, provide a clutch transmitting drive to the inner cap to secure it on or remove it from the bottle &c. Inclined faces 29, 30 and 41, 42 on the clutch dogs engage as the cap is screwed on to the bottle and, when it is tight, slide on one another to prevent damage to the cap. Vertical faces 27, 28 and 39, 40 on the clutch dogs engage as the cap is unscrewed. Resilient arms 43 on the spring-loaded member ride over grooves 24 formed on the inner cap and provide a warning noise if the outer cap is rotated without pressing it down to engage the clutch members; this provides a safety measure against tampering by children. A sealing gasket 19 is fitted in the inner cap. A ring 15 springs under the inner cap when the parts are assembled to hold it permanently in the outer cap; and both caps may be moulded of plastics material, the spring-loaded member being of metal. Tangs 32 on the spring-loaded member engage in slots 33 in the outer cap; but the tangs and the members 24, 43 may be omitted, Figs. 11- 14 (not shown), so that there is no warning noise. The slots 33 also provide a passage for cleansing fluid. The positions of the clutch dogs 37, 22 on the outer and inner caps may be reversed, Figs. 15-24 (not shown), and the shape of the clutch dogs may be variously modified.
