Abstract

1,141,525. Coloured glass. CALUMITE CO. 22 March, 1966, No. 12583/66. Heading C1M. Amber glass is made by melting together a mixture of glass-forming ingredients including sand and 0À25-100% wt., based on sand, of granular blast-furnace slag containing manganese sulphide and/or iron sulphide, and which contains no metallic Fe, the mixture also containing oxidizing agents in amount sufficient to oxidize any sulphides other than those of Mn or Fe, that may be present in the slag. The oxidizing agent may be gypsum, salt cake, nitre, barium sulphate, ammonium sulphate, or magnesium sulphate, or steam or oxygen may be injected into the molten material during the glass-making operation. The mixes may be melted at 2500-2950‹ F.
