Abstract

1,140,488. Brake transmission mechanism. SVENSKA BROMSREGULATOR A.B. 3 Feb., 1967, No. 5400/67. Heading F2E. A railway vehicle brake unit of the kind comprising a housing 1, a brake lever 2 pivoted therein, a brake shoe 10 movably supported outside the housing, a piston 5, 8 for moving the brake lever, and transmission means for transmitting force from the brake lever 2 to the shoe 10 to apply the latter to an adjacent vehicle wheel 14, and a piston return spring 6, is characterized by the transmission means including two members 20, 21 arranged to press against each other to transmit the brake applying force but to be incapable of transmitting tension forces. The lever 20 is connected to the member 21 through an automatic slack adjustment device 24-32, the member 21 having a V-shaped end which engages a complementary groove in the blook 20 provided at the pivot connection between the brake shoe 10 and the shoe suspension arm 11. To provide for the return of the shoe when the brake applying force ceases a spring device 16, 17, 18 is provided, having a lost motion connection with a pin 15 on the arm 11. The automatic wear adjustment device is similar to that disclosed in Specification 1,105,395. A lever 33 permits the brake to be operated from a hand brake linkage.
