Abstract

1,140,365. Colour television tubes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. 2 Feb., 1966 [1 March, 1965], No. 4695/66. Heading H1D. A curved shadow mask electrode 28 in a shadow mask colour cathode ray tube comprises a multiapertured thin sheet metal masking member 30 attached to a rigid metal frame 32 at not less than eight and not more than fourteen points distributed around its edge portion 52. The edge portion 52 may be telescoped with but spaced slightly from the flange 50 of the L- shaped frame 32 and welded to it preferably at twelve points 54. The shadow mask electrode may be cap-shaped and rectangular to conform generally to the shape of the faceplate 14 which has a mosaic phosphor screen 26 deposited on its internal surface and support studs 36 extending from its sidewalls 22 which co-operate with support straps 40 to locate the shadow mask electrode adjacent the phosphor screen. Fig. 7 (not show) illustrates an arrangement of twelve weld points which avoid the corners of the mask. The frame 32 may be at least ten times the thickness of the masking member 30 and both may be of the same metal, e.g. cold rolled steel. The arrangement gives a unidirectional distortion during warming up, for which satisfactory correction may be made.
