[Also in Division H2] A submersible centrifugal pump comprises a cylindrical motor casing 19 formed with a support 23 for a lower bearing 26, the bearing being held in place by spring fingers 27. An outer cylindrical shell 46 into which the casing 19 is slid is provided with a similar arrangement for the upper bearing 28. The pump casing 83, of moulded plastics or cast metal, is provided with a castellated projection 92 which is inserted into the shell 46 to abut the bottom of the motor casing 19. Lock tabs 52 formed on the shell 46 are then bent inwards so that their upper bevelled surfaces engage the bottom of the motor casing 19 to hold it within the shell. Fingers (57), Fig. 3 (not shown), extending upwardly from a retainer plate 54 to embrace the pump casing 83 are bent inwardly to engage lips (50) on the shell 46 adjacent the lock tabs 52, thereby holding the pump casing in place. A filter assembly 61 comprises a screen 71 held between plates 63 and 68, and a cylindrical screen 74 held by the rim 64 of the plate 63. At its upper end, the screen 74 is clamped by a ring 77 against a seal ring 76 which embraces the shell 46. The discharge conduit 13 passes through the seal ring 76 and is supported by a bracket 14; a locating collar 99 may be provided. The seal ring 76 is provided with a vent tube (103), Fig. 6 (not shown), for discharging vapour accumulating in the annular space 75. A resilient member 73, which may be non-metallic, provides a shock-absorbing base. Some of the pumped fuel passes via a passage 44 into the motor casing 19 to cool the motor and is discharged through one or more openings 98.
