A pipeline tapping valve comprises a housing 1 adapted to be attached against the perpihery of a pipe 6, for example by a clamp 7, 8, having a passage 5 closable by a valve element 11, 12, and a tubular plug 14 extending through the wall of the housing perpendicular to the axis of the passage 5 into a chamber 2 containing the valve element, the plug 14 being rotatable to lift the valve element off its seating, for example by means of a segmental shoulder 15, and permit flow from the pipe 6, through the passage 5, and out through a passage in itself. A flange 19 on the plug 14 locates behind a screw 18 in the flow position to prevent the plug being withdrawn.
