Abstract

1,139,173. Adjustable seats. EVERTAUT Ltd. 17 Aug., 1967 [17 May, 1966], No. 21856/66. Heading A4J. In an office chair, having a back-rest (11) supported on a pillar 12, in which a U-shaped holder 14 for the pillar is pivotally mounted on brackets 16, fixed to the chair seat, the pillar 12 is moved longitudinally through the holder, by rack and pinion mechanism. The shaft 18, which is fast with nylon pinion 19, forms the pivotal connection between 14 and 16 and, on turning this shaft, by means of handle (21), the pillar 12 is racked up or down, through tightly fitting nylon guides (13). Rack 20 may be of metal or nylon. The end of a screw-threaded rod 22 is secured by clips and washers in web 25, so that, on rotating the rod, bar 24 is screwed along it to alter the inclination of the holder 14 and thus vary the fore and aft position of the back-rest (11).
