Abstract

1,139,115. Ingot-casting apparatus. W. R. GRACE & CO. 3 April, 1967 [12 April, 1966], No. 15202/67. Heading B3F. [Also in Divisions C3 and C7] A pouring box 5 including a vacuum chamber 5b is sealed to a cylindrical ingot mould 1 by a cured epoxy resin composition (see Division C3). A pump connected by a tube 9 exhausts the chamber 5b and the mould 1 and the molten metal is run into an upper section 5a of the box. A closure 7 over the aperture 6 is fused and the metal passes through a hot top 8 into the mould in a fine spray for degassing. A closure may then be placed over the aperture 6 and degassing continued in the mould until the sealant 4 is decomposed by the heat.
