Abstract

1,138,311. Gas and oil buners. OSTERREICHISCH-ALPINE MONTANGESELLSCHAFT. 16 Feb., 1966 [17 Feb., 1965], No. 6754/66. Heading F4T. An open hearth furnace is heated by a burner using gaseous, vaporous or atomized fuel, or a mixture of gas and oil, comprising a central Laval fuel nozzle 1, i.e. having a convergent-divergent exit, surrounded by a jacket 8 forming an annular Laval oxygen nozzle 4. The fuel nozzle projects beyond the jacket 8 and is centrally supported by radial ribs 10, Fig. 12 (not shown). The flow direction of the oxygen is parallel to the axis of the fuel nozzle except when the annular nozzle is not of the Laval type in which case it converges conically towards this axis with a core apex angle of 16 degrees. The ratio between the cross-sections of the annular and central Laval nozzles is greater than the volumetric ratio between the amount of oxygen necessary to complete combustion and the amount of fuel.
