Feb. 23, 1917, [Convention date] Compositions for making beverages.-A non- alcoholic beverage is prepared by boiling beer to remove alcohol, adding heated water to make up for the loss during boiling, adding common salt, hops, gum arabic or other foam-producing substance, and sugar during boiling, and concentrated hops (hops from which dirt, seeds, &c. have been removed) near the end of the boiling, cooling to about 4‹ C., adding an agent to impart a bitter taste such as quassia, extract, finings, a chillproofing preparation, preferably the pepsin compound " caluperline," and a preservative such as potassium metabisulphite. The beverage is stored for some days and carbonated.
