Abstract

1,135,390. Ultra-sonic mixers; emulsification apparatus. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHO-ISSLEDOVATELJSKY I KONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUTE KHIMICHESKOGO MASHINOSTROENIJA. 13 Dec., 1965, No. 52937/65. Headings B1C and B1V. An installation for mixing liquids, particularly to form emulsions, consists of at least two mechanical ultra-sonic vibrating mixer units connected in series. Each unit comprises a nozzle 2 and a vibrating plate 3, which is cantilever mounted along the axis of the nozzle 2 and gradually decreases in cross-section from its fixed end to its free end which is in the vicinity of the nozzle outlet, the nozzle and plate being housed in a cylindrical resonator 1. The nozzle is in two parts 4, 5 which can be separated for clearing the nozzle if blocked. The units are supplied with pressurised liquids via a preliminary mixing chamber, pump and filter. Mixed liquids leaving the last unit may be returned to the first unit for recirculation. Two or more installations may be joined together in parallel.
