Abstract

1,133,210. Silica dispersions. DEUTSCHE GOLD - UND SILBER - SCHEIDEANSTALT. 30 Dec., 1965 [30 Dec., 1964], No. 55244/65. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions A5 and C3] A pest control agent comprises an aqueous dispersion of finely-divided silica, an aqueous polyethylene imine (P.E.I.) paste and a wetting agent or emulsifier. Substances which impart consistency, e.g. fatty acid alkanolamines, and structural viscosity, e.g. polyvinyl acetate and carboxymethylcellulose, may also be present. The silica may be a finely-divided silica aerogel containing up to 1% by weight of an oxide other than silica. The wetting agent or emulsifier may be a polyglycol ether such as a fatty alcohol polyglycol ether (alkyl polyglycol ether), an alkylarylpolyglycol ether, or a polyglycolether of a fatty acid ethanolamide. Also suitable are ethoxylated fatty amines and quaternary ammonium compounds, e.g. lauryl pyridinium chloride or lauryl pyridinium bisulphite. Pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide, aluminium silicate and dyes may be added. The dispersion may be prepared by dissolving the P.E.I. paste in distilled water and introducing the silica aerogel while stirring. High speed stirrers may be used to aid dispersion. Dispersions based on a P.E.I. salt may be obtained by dissolving P.E.I. paste in distilled water, as above, and introducing acetic, formic or phosphoric acids.
