Abstract

1,132,959. Road rollers. CHEVRON RESEARCH CO. 11 Aug., 1966 [13 Aug., 1965], No. 36080/66. Heading B7H. [Also in Divisions B1 and B2] A manoeuvrable compacting and rolling vehicle comprises a steel driving roller 4 powered by a diesel engine 11 and supporting a side member 1 of the main frame, a plurality of pneumatic tyres 3 rigidly mounted on a front axle (21) which is rotatably mounted in a yoke 19, a tiller wheel 17 mounted on a platform 12 and operably connected to the yoke, an emulsion reservoir 23 mounted on an auxiliary frame 22 and pressurized from pressure reservoir (28), (Fig. 4, not shown), a plurality of nozzles 42 through which emulsion from the reservoir 23 is sprayed on to tyres 3, and mats or wipers 46 which serve to spread the emulsion on to the faces of the tyres. The flow of emulsion is controlled by lever 33. The diameter of the pneumatic tyres 3 is normally from ¢ to 1/3 the diameter of the steel roller.
