Abstract

A timber beam structure comprises two substantially contiguous united side assemblies, each comprising an upper batten 10, a lower batten 11 and a uniting bowed or arched element 12 between said battens, and also stiffeners 13 between the battens and elements, and a web of plywood 15 on each outer side. The web, which may be formed in sections, at least one of which is removable, may be accommodated in rebates in the battens and fixed to plates 14. The contiguous surfaces of the battens, arched elements plates and stiffeners of the two assemblies may be adhesively united.
