Abstract
113,198. Wallace, C. F., and Tiernan, M. F. Nov. 14, 1916. Flwid-actuated valves; materials, special.-Relates to the application of automatic diaphragmcontrolled needle valves 6, 25 for controlling the flow of a gas, such as chlorine, to a liquid, such as water, in which the gas will dissolve for purification &c. purposes, the said valve closing the gas passage 9, 21 to prevent back flow, if the pressure of gas in the supply pipe 15, 20 falls below a predetermined value. The gas enters below a filtering-screen 18 underneath a silver cup 13 and passes through holes 17 in the rim into the space below the diaphragm 5 and thence through the valve and silver tube 9 to the liquid. The silver cup 13 retains any slight leak or back flow of liquid from the tube 9. A spring 10, adjusted by a screw 12, acts on the diaphragm and determines the pressure at which the valve operates. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the spring is replaced by a sealed air or, gas chamber 26 sealed off by the inlet piece 28. This arrangement maintains a constant flow of gas at a substantially constant density regardless of varying temperatures. Specifications 113,105, 113,106, 113,197, [Class 69 (i), Hydraulic apparatus &c.]. and 113,288, [Class 46, Filtering &c.], are referred to.
