Abstract
1,129,906. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems; automatic control of viscosity. DOMINION ENG, WORKS Ltd. Sept. 16,1966 [Sept. 22, 1965], No.40386/65. Headings G3P and G3R. Water flowing through a line 11, 13 is admixed at 12 with a drag-reducing additive such as poly (ethylene oxide). The mixture is continuously sampled at 17 and the sample flows via valve 23 to a calibrated pipe 18. The velocity or pressure drop of the sample as it flows through pipe 18 is monitored at 19 and a signal representative thereof is received by a servo-unit 16 controlling the supply of additive via valve 15. The calibrated pipe may be replaced by other drag-sensitive devices such as rotating discs, towed bodies or bodies held in the flow path.
