Abstract

1,129,564. Heat exchangers. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 1 Feb., 1967 [7 April, 1966], No. 15787/66. Heading F4S. In a method of operating a heat exchanger having a porous wall separating two fluids in heat exchange one with the other, the heated fluid is at a higher pressure than the other fluid such that a proportion e.g. 1% of the higher pressure fluid penetrates the wall to inhibit the formation of a stagnant boundary layer of fluid on said wall. In the apparatus shown comprising two concentric tubes, the inner tube 1 is the porous tube and hot exhaust gases flow through this tube. High pressure air flows through the tube 2 and a proportion of the air leaks through the porous wall of the tube 1.
