Abstract

1,128,660. Boat planing bottom. O. I. THORSEN. 27 Oct., 1965, No. 45544/65. Heading B7A. The bottom of a boat hull having a constant cross-section from amidships to stern has a plurality of pairs of planing surfaces (12a-12b; 13a-13b; 14a-14b; Fig. 2) extending from bow to transom symmetrically about a keel (17), the surfaces defining a dead rise (A, Figs. 2 and 4), the bottom ends of said planing surfaces forming entry angles (B, Fig. 4) with the dead rise, the top ends forming exit angles (C) which are relatively large compared with said entry angles, the planing surfaces thus forming downwardly thrusting water scoops. The dead rise line in Fig. 2 is straight but it may be convex or concave, and the planing bottom shape may be applied to each hull of a twin-hulled catamaran.
