Abstract

1,128,633. Laminates; honeycomb core. HEXCEL CORP. 23 Aug., 1966 [24 Oct., 1965], No. 37823/66. Heading B5N. A honeycomb core structure 10 is formed of corrugated ribbons 12 of material bonded together at adjacent nodes, each ribbon being formed as a composite sandwich structure including a pair of face sheets 16 and a porous core 14 disposed between and secured to the inner surfaces of the face sheets. The face sheets 16 may be metal and the core may comprise generally rigid wire or fibres defining a foraminous construction having spaced voids extending transversely therethrough. If metal wires are used the sheets 16 and core 14 may be secured by diffusion bonding. When the core 14 is a sheet of fabric or fibre glass material the sheets are secured by adhesive. The core may be made more highly electrically conductive than the sheets 16. Thus, the core 14 may be made of copper and the sheets 16 of stainless steel.
