Abstract

1,128,533. Screw presses. HILLER & LUTZ. 7 Oct., 1966 [27 Aug., 1966], No. 44820/66. Heading B5F. In a screw press comprising a ram 3, screw 10 and flywheel 7, the screw is driven from one of two drive pulleys 5 on a shaft 11 through alternately engageable friction clutches 15, 16 and bevel gears 12, 13. Fig. 3 shows one half only of the drive mechanism for the press. The pulley 5 is moved to the left to engage the clutch by fluid pressure on one annular piston 14 against the action of springs 17 bearing on a presser ring 18. Brake shoes 8 pivoted at 21 are moved against the flywheel 7 by springs 22 when fluid pressure on a piston 23 is relieved. Electro-hydraulic control means ensures that the brake is off before one of the clutches is operated.
