[Also in Division B3] In a vacuum casting plant billets are supplied from storage chambers 2 into a melting chamber 1 which is provided with induction heating units 4, one for each storage chamber. A casting chamber 3 is located below the melting chamber 1 and a mould 5 is located therein for movement into and out of the melting chamber 1 by means 12. In operation billets are supplied, successively or simultaneously, to the respective heating units, the resulting molten metal running into the mould 5. The mould is lowered, when filled, into the chamber 3 for subsequent removal from the plant. Valves 7 and 11 are positioned between chambers 2 and 1 and 1 and 3 respectively, so that the vacuum in the respective chambers may be released to facilitate recharging of the storage chambers or removal of a filled mould without effecting the continuous running of the plant.
