Abstract

112,767. Plegat, A. J. Jan. 19, 1917, [Convention date]. Driving-gear.-Relates to pin-and-slot mechanism and consists in providing the crank-pin with an anti-friction roller, or in allowing the crankpin to rotate in the crank-webs and in giving the slot the form shown in Figs. 2 or 4. The slot c<2> shown in Fig. 2 has upper and lower portions at right-angles to the axis of the cylinders, connected by an inclined central portion. In Fig. 4 the inclined central portion is shown replaced by a curved central part. These forms of slot prevent dead centres so that the engine can be started with the crank in any position. Should the engine stop with the crank-pin in the position shown in Fig. 2 the engine may start in the wrong direction, in which case it is stopped and restarted.
