Abstract

Each trough section 4a of a coal face conveyer is associated with three guide beams 5 which consist of hollow sections formed with longitudinal splines 5a. These splines engage in grooves provided in sleeves 14 which are longitudinally slidable on the beams 5 but which are unable to rotate thereon. Each sleeve 14 is secured by a strap 13 to an hydraulic prop 6 and each beam 5 is connected to the trough section 4a by a crosshead 9 received in a box 10 on the section 4a. Tensile forces on the beam are taken up by a cover 10a for the box, and thrust is absorbed by a leaf spring 12. The props 6 are advanced by hand and the conveyer may be sided over by single acting rams. Alternatively, if at least one of splines 5a is provided with rack teeth for engagement by a pinion in the sleeve 14, a motor drive may advance the conveyer and props. In a modification, Fig. 6, a guide beam 15 incorporates a ram device of which the portion 15a connected to the conveyer is, at its other end, connected by a knuckle joint 26 to a movable cylinder 24 of the ram. An outer member 16 of the ram is secured to the base 17 of a support element having hydraulic props 18, 18a connected by a roof bar 19. This bar is coupled at 20 to a further roof bar 21 for a prop 22. A soleplate 23 connects the foot of the prop 22 with the twin prop support element.
