Abstract

1,127,364. Laminates. EDWARD W. ANDREW Ltd. 28 Oct., 1966 [1 Oct., 1965], No. 41673/65. Heading B5N. [Also in Division D1] A filtering medium comprises a bath of cotton fibres interposed between two further preformed baths each of which, together with a scrim facing and/or backing on the cotton bath, consists of synthetic fibres, the resultant laminate being needled to produce a felted structure. The filtering medium may contain 80% cotton and 20% synthetic fibres. The synthetic fibres preferably shrink at least 10% when subjected to heat and/or chemical treatment. The shrinkable synthetic fibres preferably comprise less than 45% of the total weight of fibres, excluding the scrim. Synthetic fibres mentioned are: nylon, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polytetrafluoroethylene and polyacrylonitrile.
