Abstract

1,126,923. Casting processes. H. J. DAUSSAN. 31 Aug., 1965 [31 Aug., 1964], No. 15562/68. Divided out of 1,126,922. Addition to 1,126,922. Heading B3F. A dish-shaped vessel, for use in a method of pouring similar to that claimed in the parent Specification, applied to top pouring of ingots or to continuous casting in open-ended moulds, is formed of material eventually destroyed by the heat of the metal to limit the height to which the vessel floats. Impurities collected in the vessel and melted portions of the vessel itself float to the top for skimming off. The vessel is made of mild steel sheet 13, 13a embedded in combustible material 11, 12 such as cardboard, paper or sawdust possibly with a binder or inert filler. As shown, the vessel is made in three parts C<SP>4</SP>, C<SP>5</SP>, C<SP>6</SP>. The first two are joined together and the last, C<SP>6</SP>, may be glued to the bottom of C<SP>5</SP> or used loose. The laminated central parts of C<SP>5</SP> and C<SP>6</SP> may form a separate part (C<SP>8</SP>) for insertion in an annular part (C<SP>7</SP>). The vessel is placed for use, in a cavity B<SP>1</SP> at the bottom of an ingot mould or at the top of a starter bar of a continuous casting mould.
