Abstract
1,126,108. Deodorizing tablet comprising calcium hypochlorite. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORP. 21 June, 1966 [2 July, 1965], No. 27612/66. Heading A5E. [Also in Division C3] Deodorising tablets reactive with water to generate and deliver a chlorinous deodorising gas into the air space above a body of water into which said tablet is introduced and on which said tablet floats, consists essentially of a homogeneous mixture of (1) 1 to 10 weight per cent calcium hypochlorite, (2) 5 to 25 weight per cent of an alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate, (3) 5 to 25 weight per cent of a solid acid or acid salt and (4) 10 to 50 weight per cent of a polyolefin. The polyolefin may be pulverulent or fibrous polyethylene or polypropylene. The alkali metal compound may be sodium, rubidium or sodium potassium carbonate; or sodium, potassium, lithium or cesium bicarbonate. The acid material may be oxalic, succinic, tartaric, citric, gluconic, malic, malonic, maleic, phthalic or p-toluenesulphonic acid; or sodium acid citrate, potassium bitartrate, potassium acid phthalate, sodium acid oxalate, rubidium acid tartrate, cesium acid tartrate, lithium acid citrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium dihydrogen pyrophosphate, sulphamic sodium bisulphate or ammonium polyphosphate coated phosphorus pentoxide. The compositions may also contain diluent salts, e.g. alkali metal chlorides, chlorates and nitrates; dessicants, e.g. calcium sulphate, alumina, silica gel, sodium sulphate and magnesium sulphate; lubricants, e.g. metal stearates; binders, e.g. cellulose ethers such as carboxymethyl-, hydroxyethyl- and carboxymethylhydroxyethyl cellulose, fillers, e.g. silica; pigments; and perfumes which may be adsorbed on a carrier such as clay. The tablets may be prepared by pressing at 5,000 to 80,000 psi a composition in which all the particles pass a 30 mesh and at least 10 per cent by weight pass a 100 mesh. Many examples are given of tablets suitable for addition to water closets.
