1,125,881. Sockets. SOC-ANON-PEGARD. 14 Sept., 1965 [18 Sept., 1964], No. 39109/65. Heading B3B. A reaming or milling machine or lathe comprises a stud 7 on a tool carrying member and an annular projection 14 on the stud to cooperate with a fastening member 15 such that, by movement of the fastening member, the stud and the tool can be released. The stud 7 is secured in the tool or toolholder shank 5 by a spherically-seated screw 13. Springs 23 draw the member 15 rearwardly causing balls 17 to engage the projection 14 and seat the tool in the spindle-nose taper. To release the spring-pressure, air pressure is supplied to a piston (30) to advance a piston (29) in an oil-filled enclosure 27. A piston 25 is thereby advanced to move the balls 17 axially so that they recede into an annular recess 19.
