Abstract

1,081,862. Chucks. BRYANT SYMONS & CO. Ltd. March 23, 1966 [March 24, 1965], No. 12501/65. Heading B3B. A fluid-pressure suction-actuated chuck comprises an annular resilient clamping member 3 that grips the article, e.g. a piston 37, being machined by radial deformation when a sleeve 4 is moved axially by the suction to compress the clamping member 3. The suction also draws the article into the chuck body before the full clamping effect is generated. A groove 12 on the chuck body 1 is filled with grease to provide the seal between the chuck body and the movable sleeve 4. The chuck may be adapted for holding non-circular articles.
