Abstract
1,125,621. Stabilizing aromatic amines. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 10 Jan., 1966 [8 Jan., 1965], No. 991/65. Heading C2C. N-Hydroxyalkyl-arylamines, possibly oxyalkylated, are preserved against discoloration on exposure to oxygen in absence of substantial amounts of water, by adding 1-50 wt. per cent of an inorganic acid-binding agent and/or 0À1-15 wt. per cent of an antioxidant. The acid-binding agent may be, e.g., a carbonate or hydroxide of Ca, Ba or Mg, a bicarbonate or acetate of Na or K, or an oxide of Zn or Al. Listed antioxidants include alkylated phenols (and derivatives), thio compounds, esters of gallic, phosphorous and thiodipropionic acids, and salts of dialkyldithiocarbamates and dialkyldithiophosphates. The arylamine to be stabilized may be present as a contaminant in a solid product, e.g. a salt or quaternary salt of the arylamine.
