A male sheet-bending die has a working edge sides extending back from the edge and latera flanges, on the sides, spaced from the edge Means may be provided on said sides to stop the bending operation when contacted by the sheet. Metal sheet 30 is bent between dies 1 and 10, the die 1 being formed with a working edge 2, recessed sides 4 and lateral flanges 3. Electric contacts 5 on said sides 4, when engaged by the bent sheet 30, stop the press. The electric contacts 5 may be replaced by hydraulic, pneumatic or photo-electric means or be omitted.
