Abstract

1,124,965. Control systems for feed water heaters. G.E.C. COMPUTERS & AUTOMATION Ltd. 9 Aug., 1966 [9 Aug., 1965], No. 34014/65. Heading F4A. A feed water heating system includes at least two parallel feed paths, each containing a feed water heater 14, heated by bled steam from turbines 3. The heat content take up by the feed water in flowing through each heater 14 is derived from signals obtained from feed water flow meters 22, and inlet and outlet thermocouples 23, 24 respectively, whilst the enthalpy content of the bled steam is derived from signals obtained from thermocouples 21. These signals are passed to a computer 20 which after averaging a number of these values, produces signals on display 26 representing the adjustments necessary to feed flow control valves 15, to maximize the heat contents of the feed water at the outlets of the feed water heaters. These adjustments may then be effected manually or electrically.
