Heading D1E At each side of the loom a selected weft is drawn into measured loop before insertion into a dummy shuttle. A pattern operated selector 46 is lowered, a hook 55 is lowered to bring the selected weft 25 into a guide 10 and a brake 40 and a hook 11 is pivoted slightly anticlockwise deflecting the weft between the selector 46 and guide 10. Measuring hooks 43, 44 are then moved across the loom to draw out a loop of weft and a clamp 82 is lowered to clamp a leg of the loop. The hook 11 is then pivoted slightly clockwise to slacken the weft whilst scissors 22 are pivoted to cut the weft at the selvedge. The hook 11 is then pivoted anticlockwise to draw the cut end out of the brake 40 so that a nozzle 53 may blow it through a dummy shuttle 32, with a gripper 37, into a suction tube 36. As the hooks 43, 43 start to retract a plate 19 is raised to tension the measured loop against bristles &c. 18. As the shuttle is picked the hook 11 pivots anticlockwise and the clamp 82 is opened. To compensate for differing elasticity of yarns they are placed through droppers 15, 16, 17 whose drop may be adjusted. Stop motion. As the loop is drawn blades 31. 35 close upon each other. If, due to lack of weft. the blades penetrate each other the loom is stopped. When the loop has been picked the blades again close and, if they do not penetrate each other, the loom is stopped.
