Abstract

1,124,064. Settling tank. KONINKLIJKE MACHINEFABRIEK GEBR. STORK & CO. N.V. 23 Aug., 1965 [7 Sept., 1964], No. 36153/65. Heading B1D. Sugar juice enters from vessel 25 at one end of an elongate settling tank 1, the tank being partly divided by baffles 14-17 which extend longitudinally of the tank sloping downwards towards its longitudinal centre plane, whereby the flow is divided, clean juice being withdrawn at apertures 18, (19), 22, (23) (Fig. 3, not shown) just below the baffles at the right hand end of the tank, while sediment, guided by the baffles into the central plane, is withdrawn with 'dirty juice' from outlets 6, 9, 11. As shown, outlets 6, 9, 11 are located in inclined steps between sections of the tank floor, which also converges transversely of the tank. The clean juice is conveyed to a tank 21 and the dirty juice to tank 13. An overflow 31 at the inlet end of tank 1 discharges into a line 33, which also serves to drain the tank when valves to outlets 6, 9, 11 are opened.
