Abstract

1,122,618. Advancing hydraulic mine roof supports. BERGWERKSVERBAND G.m.b.H. June 3, 1966 [June 3, 1965], No.24935/66. Heading F1P. An automatically advanceable hydraulic mine roof support unit has a periodically extended feeler member which when the coal face B and/ or the conveyer C is a predetermined distance away from the support serves to initiate the release, advance and resetting of the support unit. A coal face feeler member 72a and a conveyer feeler member 72b are held retracted within cylinders 71a, 71b by continuous application of low pressure air from a line 9 until such times as they are extended through apertures 81a, 81b in protective casings 80a, 80b until arrested by contact with the coal face B and conveyer C by a pulse of high pressure air admitted through a camactuated valve 6 in a high pressure line 10. When the face B and conveyer C have so far advanced that the periodically extended feelers are able to make a full stroke, arms 74a, 74b carried thereby open three-way valves 13a, 13b in high pressure to a line 15 containing actuators for the main hydraulic valves controlling the supports. The cam 4 for actuating valve 6 is mounted on an indexed shaft 3a which also carries a cam 5 for controlling a valve 16 which in turn controls the supply of compressed air to cylinders 17, 18 to effect return of valves 13a, 13b to their inoperative position.
